Please bare with me, this is my first attempt at reporting events. I have never been trained to take these sorts of notes and make no promises on the quality of the reports here. My basic goal was is to get in writing all the details of the events.
Saturday May 17th, 2008
TopHat and I arrive at the Saturday Market where we are instantly greeted by a small swarm of Anons welcoming us. I was pleasantly surprised by our numbers, I don't have the actual head count just yet; though I did hear something along the lines of 22. TopHat and I are immediately informed that the transit security did not want us standing on the bricks. Of course we respect their wishes and don't cause a scene. At the pre-game flyering nothing terribly eventful occurred. The only thing I witnessed was a little religious bigotry. Some person shared his feelings which went along the lines of "Scientologists are worse than the Mormons." He did not care to elaborate on his statement.
I find it interesting how much Portland supports our Anonymous movement, and yet so few do anything about it. There of course were the many people of Portland who absolutely hate Scientology and yet don't know much about it. I don't think less of these people because well... Scientology is a cult, and the very word "cult" does makes people uneasy to say the least. While my personal aspirations for Anonymous would be to call for the reform of the cult, and not the destruction of their beliefs; I fully understand and acknowledge that most people (and by normal I mean... just about everyone on the planet) are either apathetic to Scientology or wish to see it's destruction. What I find ironic is that from what I gather more fellow Anons share my point of view versus the majority.
After what seemed to be an hour we meet up with some more Anons at the Pioneer Square. Once again, nothing too eventful there. There was a little bit of chanting and a few kids at the square shouted some memes at us including but not limited too: "Long cat is LOOOOOOOOOONG." We did actually recruit another Anon who introduced himself to me as "Gr3ndel." Thankfully there was another protester there with extra masks to give to our new Anon. This has actually motivated me to make some more masks to hand out at the next protest. Motivating me is a very difficult thing to do indeed my friends.
At approximately 4:30pm we arrive at the Oregon Convention Center. Spirits are high for Dianetics Day. We know for a fact that the event is being held here because the OCC display sign read "Portland Church [hahaha] of Scientology; Dianetics Anniversary" May 17th. This was a relief, because I did have my suspicions that the cult had put the wool over our eyes and tricked us to going there. I forget exactly what it was that triggered this... I believe it was something TopHat said to me. It could have also been the fact that the OCC looked rather deserted when we arrived, despite the beautiful weather. At approx. 5:15pm I had not noticed any cameras or bull-baiters about. At this point I wonder about my earlier anxieties from the few nights past. Thus far no one had came to bother our protest, at this point I'm not sure if I was relieved or disappointed at the lack of engagement. I really would like to get a better understanding of the individuals (if you really can call them that) in the cult's point of view. Let me make this note here before I go any further: I would like to explain my blatant usage of the word "cult." I understand that the cult has hired PI's to get sound bites of Anons labeling the cult as the "church" of Scientology while Simultaneously getting the Anons to admit their feelings of their disappoint of the past actions of Anonymous. I would like to make this clear right here and right now, I do not use the word "cult" in an attempt to piss of the Scilons. I use it to protect our movement and help warn the public about their dark doings. The absolute last thing I really want to do is to get in a shouting match with a Scilon.
The first interaction that I was notified of happened to Gr3ndel. A Scilon simply walked up to him and said "So you guys even hide behind masks," and then walked away. Gr3ndel only knew that he was a Scilon because of the Dianetics brochure that was located in his shirt pocket.
It is Approx. 5:50pm when I am informed that there was a private investigator found taking pictures of us. From what I understand, xcthulhux went to get some water and saw a man in a green shirt filming us and talking about us on some sort of radio. Unperfekt promptly responded by taking pictures of the PI and followed him around with his own camera. The PI walked away while flashing us a peace sign. I wonder what sort of "investigator" you would have to be to willingly work for a cult. Let's just hope that this individual was simply ignorant instead of apathetic. We were still keeping our eyes out for more PI's, though I seriously doubt that there were any more about. That PI was kind of a FAIL anyway. I mean, he got caught! It looks as if the cult can no longer afford the best.
At 6:15pm we discover that some idiot had the bright idea to graffiti the Anonymous logo onto the corner of NE Holiday and NE Martin Luther King Jr. There was another graffiti that a few of us found along Loyd Blvd. I believe there were three of them all together. I hope to what ever powers may be that no Anon was stupid enough to have done that! I'm hoping it was those stupid High School-looking kids that were yelling memes at us. We did call it into the police and I believe TopHat reported it to a security guard. I just hope that no Scilon finds that and uses it as ammo against us. We've already given them enough to make false claims about us, and we don't need to keep feeding it to them.
At about 7.00pm it was dinner time! A few of us walk up to the Burgerville to grab food. Of course we take our masks off to order and eat, and who walks in but a couple of Scilons! We only know that they are Scientologists because one of the women was sporting a very stylish "Dianetics" sport jacket. I simply must have one for myself! I'm not absolutely sure that they were following us, because who in their right mind would try tracking us while advertising that they are the enemy. It was a little suspicious that they didn't order anything and left almost as quickly as we tried to leave upon discovering that they were there. They didn't have any cameras that we noticed, but those Scilons are tricky ones.
8:00pm a small group of us wonder around to find the other entrances. We mosey on over to the parking entrance on NE 1st Ave near the Loyd Blvd. We wave at people and holler at them when they honk in support. A man drives by on metallic lime motorcycle and I notice that he is carefully eying us. I watch him slowly turn around and drive back toward us and yells "Thanks for showing me where the event is being held," at that point the four of us happily laugh at the joke he made on us. I honestly think that our greatest weapon is our sense of humor. If we can't kill 'em with kindness then we can at least kill 'em with lulz. After a few minutes of us standing, one of the parking lot attendants comes out to talk to us and informs them that the Scilons will leave at around 11:00pm. This was an amazing piece of information because no one at the convention was willing to tell us this. I will not mention his name of course to protect his identity, but I less than three that parking lot attendant!
8:30pm, I'm at a low point right now. I'm exhausted and the skin on my feet is literally peeling off and bleeding. I want to be here for the long haul, but there is only so much that a girl can take. Since our numbers are slowly dwindling as it gets later, I decided to suck it up for the cause and show my support. Besides, I wasn't just there for the protest, I was there for my fellow Anons as well. I hope that the other Anons share my feelings here, but the Anons really are what motivate me to do this. We really do have an amazing thing going on here, so many young people getting off their computers and actively doing something that they believe is right. With this thought in my head I decide to be strong for the rest of the group. Hell, if I can stand around for eight hours in high heels then maybe someone else will be inspired by me.
Just about after 9:00pm pdxvortex was assaulted by a Scilon. He was following one with a camera and the Scientologist accused him of stalking. From what I understand pdxvortex was simply asking him questions. The Scientologist then tried to to grab pdxvortex's camera and nearly broke his LCD screen. It was all captured on camera and he also got the testimony of a willing witness. More on that later when the video is uploaded. This anon is particularly interested to see that.
An hour later, the convention starts to wind down. I was able to peg Fred King (OTlv. 8 and CEO of Hollander Consultants) in the crowd helping to carry out some white boxes into a truck. I understand that here was where most of the more interesting videos were taken. I felt a little vulnerable in such a small crowd up against so many Scientologists, but we ended the night on a jovial note. We waved a loving farewell to our "beloved" granny Gwen and paraded off to the the Max.
All in all, today was a pretty huge event. I still wish that there were more Anons to help support our cause today... but we had such quality in our ranks that I don't think numbers mattered too much. Just keep up the work friends, have fun, recruit, and most importantly INFORM!
